The Games! Glenn (of Rait) the scarecrow welcomed everyone Again the weather for the Glen of Rait Games was (almost) perfect. Hundreds (about 500) descended on our little village. Parking was at a premium. The multitude was fed, the food was akin to the loaves and fishes and there was even a little left over. The hill race had 26 runners and we were congratulated on our new extended course; the race winner was Chris, Graham's, the master of ceremonies, son. Quite a bit of backslapping! The opening procession Stephani Dailly, STV newsreader opened the Games and was involved throughout, taking part as a member of a ladies tug o' war team. She was assisted at the opening parade and ceremony by the 'Lord and Lady Provost', Calum Robertson Twinn and Lucy Clark. More pictures in the Gallery Much fun was had in the ring throughout the afternoon. First in the field were the Leona Robertson Dancers. From the fun little ones to the more sophisticated older dancers they entertained the growing crowd.

The hill race had a new route this year. The old route was so short that we barely had time to draw breath before the first runner was back. This year , at the suggestion of Niel Playford, farmer at New Mains, (part of the route) a much longer 5k route was run and we got a lot of favourable comment from the runners. The Abernyte Antique Centre trophy for the first male runner was lifted by Chris Nicolson. The George Hotel trophy for the first female runner was taken by Katherine Farmer. First male under 16 was Niel Gunn and first girl home under 16 was Megan Roberts.
Some got the hang of the three legged race Then there were games for the children... and some didn't quite! And the adults- And the serious and not so serious stuff!
Look at the gallery for a lot of other pictures. Thanks to David Paterson for the picsThanks also to our sponsors. A list on the menu.
